Phase 2 of the "Santa Madre" Homeless Shelter of Antigua Guatemala will allow the shelter's volunteers to extend the hours and opportunities that the homeless have to receive a hot and nutritious meal, in addition to providing overflow emergency housing.

The dining room will have a seating capacity of 50 to 60 people at one time, with an estimated ground floor area (gfa) of 100 square meters, or 9,200 square feet.

Phase 2 contemplates the construction of a more formalized sports activity center, in which energetic youth and adults can play impromptu and organized sports such as basketball, soccer, and other such games. This same area will serve the dual purpose of holding larger meetings, retreats, and outdoor workshops.

This same space will also provide an emergency housing extension for overflow dormitory space.
THE HOMELESS SHELTER: PHASE 2
Phase 2 of the "Santa Madre" Homeless Shelter of Antigua Guatemala includes plans for a more formal kitchen and dining room, a sports activity center for the homeless youth, and a child-care day facility for the young children of mothers who are living on the streets.

The program model will be similar to other street-child programs founded and directed in Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, and Honduras by "Santa Madre" Homeless Shelter volunteer executive director Patrick Atkinson.

The general project infrastructure construction associated with this Phase Two development includes:
a) Site development
b) Earth moving
c) Construction of the project’s main security booth, controlling street access
d) Introduction of potable water, sewer system connection, electricity, and telephone hook-ups
e) General landscaping
f) Construction of the sports activity center
