The ongoing construction efforts for the Santa Madre Homeless Shelter have been paid for by private donation and foundation grants. We are very grateful for these gifts, as well as for the prayers and volunteer efforts shown towards the homeless of our region.

The City of Antigua gave the homeless shelter a $ 25,000 initial construction cash grant. It obtained these funds from Fe En Practica in exchange for a 25-year use of a city-owned house by the local Franciscan hospital and hospice, Obras Sociales Hermano Pedro.

Patrick and Ernesto Atkinson donated Q 5,000 to cover all incorporation expenses for the Homeless Shelter.
The International Scouting Association of Switzerland has raised construction funds in Switzerland for this homeless shelter. A group of Scouts traveled to Guatemala in 2002 and 2003 to participate in the actual construction of The Santa Madre Homeless Shelter of Antigua Guatemala. An anonymous benefactor from Pennsylvania, USA, made a major Christmas Eve 2002 donation, with which construction efforts restarted on January 7th, 2003.

In-kind donations are constantly being sought in Guatemala by the Guatemalan charity Asociación Nuestros Ahijados.

One viable option being considered by the Santa Madre Homeless Shelter's board of directors is to use the Thomas Kramer Building as a homeless shelter, while construction on the main social services center is being completed. The Thomas Kramer Building is a two-story building with 5 bathrooms, 110 / 220 voltage, industrial drains, and 12 phone lines. It is located at the entrance to Antigua on the east side of town.
