Major milestones that have been accomplished on the construction of the Santa Madre Homeless Shelter:
1) Obtained a 25-year “uso fruto” of a large section of municipal land behind Antigua’s public marketplace
2) Connected this construction site to potable water, electrical connection, and sewage drain connection
3) Conducted significant international research to determine the best physical attributes of a homeless shelter, and blended these attributes to match historical Antigua Guatemala’s very stringent building codes
4) Developed the master, major, and infrastructural architectural designs for this homeless shelter
5) Completed the major construction on the Phase 1 portion of the homeless shelter, as seen in the following photographs
6) The “Asociación Albergue Antigüeño” has been legally incorporated as a separate non-profit, non-political and ecumenical charity
The guidance of the social impact, municipal politics and legal processes were directed by board member Patrick Atkinson.
